Senate leader confident of peace

Abuja - Senate President, David Mark, is confident the state of emergency will soon be lifted. This is according to a statement signed by the senate president.

According to him the challenges confronting the nation, including that of insecurity, were not insurmountable.

“The state of emergency proclamation in these three states was a last resort to curtail the insurgency.

"And I know it is yielding a positive result. Very soon, it will be over as our military formations are living up to the task,” read the statement.

He thanked Nigerians for their  perseverance during these recent problems.

“It was by choice and design that the nation chose democracy as the best form of government. Democracy promotes the rule of law, upholds human rights and freedom of speech.

"Whichever faith or religion, I urge Nigerians to continue to pray for peace, unity and progress of the nation," Mark said.

A number of northern states in Nigeria are under a state of emergency following terrorist acts blamed on Boko Haram members.
